Remarks :
Taxonomic Notes :Note that the form flaviscapis is now considered a separate monotypic species endemic to the mountains of Java: Pied Shrike-babbler Pteruthius flaviscapis.

Western Himalayan birds are sometimes separated under the name ripleyi from Eastern Himalayan (through to western Myanmar) birds validirostris, but there is considerable uncertainty about where the division should be, and we have therefore retained all Himalayan birds here as validirostris pending clarification.
