Remarks :Initially it was thought that this bird was a juvenile Short-toed Snake Eagle Circaetus gallicus and other suggestions included Booted EagleHieraaetus pennatus. The consensus finally emerged that it was a young or pale female Oriental Honey-buzzard due to the relatively small head and slim neck, the rudimentary crest, yellowish cere and tarsi (the latter lacking the shaggy feathering of Booted Eagle and not grey like Short-toed Eagle), the long slit-shaped nostril. - Ed.
