Remarks :I don't know where the bird was caught and did not see any suitable forests near Prapat. However, during the second part of the bus trip from Prapat to Sibolga we passed through extensive, seemingly rather undisturbed forests that could potentially harbour Sumatran Laughingthrushes. - PN
Taxonomic Notes :Monotypic species endemic to the mountains of Sumatra, Indonesia. Formerly considered a subspecies of White-crested Laughingthrush Garrulax leucolophus. Split as a separate species following Collar, N. J. (2006) A partial revision of the Asian babblers (Timaliidae). Forktail 22: 85-112.
