| Remarks : | I am indebted to Sein-Chiong Chiu & Jing-Yi Tou for help in differentiating the male and female Crested Goshawk. I am posting here a composite of 2 birds taken in the past week to show the difference:
The female is larger (hard to appreciate unless side by side). The side of the head/face in males is grey, with black moustachial and throat stripes. The females have a browner head/face and brown underpart streaks and bars. The central stripe from chin to breast (mesial) in the male is thinner and longer. In the female this is thicker and “broken”. Similarly, the breast streaks and belly bands are more "broken" in females, better defined in males. - Amar |
