Remarks :Was on my way to conduct a workshop on child abuse. My favourite cab driver, Chin, was driving me to the coast. Over the years we have become friends and recently he has developed an interest in nature & ecology after getting a copy of my bird book. So now our conversations deal not just with politics and human behaviour but also birds and nature. He was aware that I had “lost” a weekend to be with nature, so was on the lookout with me for interesting sites along the way (he knew I had brought my camera). We saw a lot of birds along the way but were both pleasantly surprised to see a male Long-Tailed Parakeet high on a tree and stopped to take a look. We discovered a number of nesting holes. So on the way back from the workshop we stopped again and found a female in one of the holes.
The nest was located high in a dead tree (10-12 meters up), less than 10 meters from the road and near a major river. We only saw one pair of Long-Tailed Parakeets at the nesting site, although some of the other holes look freshly dug. - Amar
