| Remarks : | Black-throated are the common sunbird of the hill stations.
Although they are seen usually in pairs, I find groups not uncommon.
At this time I saw 7-8 together. In literature supposed to lay two eggs & presumably a family unit is four but definitely saw seven and possibly eight, with at least two juveniles and two adult males.
Could not determine the rest well as juveniles look like females in
low light. Have groups of five as well.
The juveniles in this group were foraging independently. There was a lot of “squabbling” and “chasing about” that looked more like fun/play rather than territorial displays.
Here are the juveniles feeding on nectar from the Canna flower and Poinsettia Euphorbia pulcherrima. - Amar |
