Date : 27 March 2017
English synonyms:Blue-crowned Parrot, Blue-crowned Green Parrot, Luzon Parrot, Philippine Green Parrot
Bird Family :Psittacidae - Parrots, Parakeets, Lories, Lorikeets, Cockatoos, Corellas, Guaiabero & Racquet-tails
Bird Group :PSITTACIFORMES
Red Data Status :Near Threatened
Remarks :These near threatened parrots can be found around Tanjung Aru Beach on the outskirts of the city. The small population here owes its presence to Quentin Philipps (Phillipps' Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo) who is credited with saving them from the cage at a nearby market. The population is maintained but small, around 30-50, due to competition for nesting holes in the old, beach-side, casuarina trees with other birds. The population here is presumed to be T. l. salvadorii. Unfortunately this beach has been designated for extensive development. and their future is uncertain.
