English synonyms:Scarlet backed Flowerpecker, Pryer’s Flowerpecker (black-breasted morph "pryeri")
Bird Family :Dicaeidae - Flowerpeckers & Mistletoebird

Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :Most of the food items I have observed the Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker take are fruit. Occasionally insects and invertebrates are taken to feed young. I have previously only seen nectar feeding on Mistletoe. On this occasion I saw an adult male taking nectar from a Syzygium samarangense (Water Jambu) – a local plant grown in commercial orchards for the fruit. No images of the activity.

Food items I have previously observed Scarlet-backed Flowerpeckers feeding on:
1. Dendrophthoe pentandra (Malaysian Mistletoe) – native plant, nectar & fruit feeding
2. Scurrula ferruginea (Rusty-leaf Mistletoe) – native plant, fruit feeding
3. Other unidentified Mistletoe
4. Clidemia hirta (Hairy Clidemia) – exotic plant, fruit feeding
5. Muntingia calabura (Village Cherry) – exotic plant, fruit feeding
6. Melastoma malabathricum (Straits rhododendron) – native plant, fruit feeding
7. Pipturus argenteus (Native or Australian Mulberry) – exotic plant, fruit feeding
8. Invertebrates & insects
