| Remarks : | This is a rare photo from India, possibly only the 3rd. The two earlier photographs from India correspond to the only two other recent records of the nominate subspecies (January 2010 at Khonoma, Nagaland. April 2014 at Loyalakpa Peak, Manipur). This highly localized Laughingthrush is near-endemic to India and range restricted to the Barail Range & Chin-Lushai Hills of NE India & NW Myanmar. This is the nominate G. a. austeni found in the Barail Range. It is very rare and hardly ever seen. The only other accessible place where this species can be seen is the Mount Victoria area of NW Myanmar (where the Chin Hills subspecies G. a. victoriae is a fairly common resident). - PB |
