| Bird Family : | Zosteropidae - White-eyes, Black-eye & Ibons |
| Bird Group : | PASSERIFORMES |
| Red Data Status : | Least Concern |
| Remarks : | A flock of white-eyes were foraging in the area. The call was distinctly harsher and the birds seemed darker than the Oriental White-eye. A very conspicuos black forehead. It was quite different from the OWE which is very common in my garden in Jamnagar (Gujarat). - SD
Not clear whether the extensive black on the lores and crown is due to some kind of staining or part of the bird's actual colouration. The local subspecies nilgiriensis of Oriental White-eye is known to be darker greener above with a longer tail and larger bill. Birders/photographers are encouraged to look out for white-eyes when visiting the area and noting whether they show similar head markings. - Ed |
