Location :Mount Harriet National Park, South Andaman, Andaman Islands, India
Date : 11 March 2013
English synonyms:Andaman Dark Serpent Eagle, Dark Serpent Eagle, Andaman Serpent-Eagle
Bird Family :Accipitrinae - Hawks, Bazas, Honey-buzzards, Eagles, Kites, Vultures, Harriers & Buzzards
Bird Group :CICONIIFORMES
Red Data Status :Near Threatened
Remarks :There are 2 species of Serpent Eagle (genus Spilornis) in the Andaman group of islands - Andaman Serpent Eagle (endemic) and Crested Serpent Eagle (davisoni ssp.). The former is almost completely uniformly dark and slightly smaller, with a different call.

I've seen both of them in the evergreen and moist deciduous forests as well as forest edges. This bird was relaxing in the late afternoon near the forest entry gate, oblivious to the traffic going up and down the National Park. -SMV
