| Remarks : | This little fledgling was found hopping in our yard during the recent typhoon here. He was unable to fly when I first caught him. Though there are many Blue Rock Thrushes that live in our neighborhood, I have never seen a chick or fledgling (only juveniles), so catching and caring for him was a real treat! He took a while to warm up but afterwards would chirp and then open his mouth very wide for food when I stood over his box. I tried a few things but he didn't eat anything I gave him. Of note are his full wing feathers, but short and not fully feathered tail. I kept him warm and dry overnight then took him to a dense jungle area behind our house early the next morning when the wind had died down. He responded to adult Blue Rock Thrush calls from the trees and finally flew out of the box onto a nearby branch. He stayed for a minute watching me and listening to the adults then finally flew into the dense jungle. What a privilege to have been able to help and observe this little guy! (The bird is shown in this photo next to a six inch long ruler.) - SF |
