| Remarks : | This bird appears to be a unique aberrant form of the ssp. fuscatus. None of the Hong Kong birders have seen anything similar.
The bird was overall sooty black without the usual contrast between head, wing coverts and body.
It had a pale green beak instead of dark grey.
It showed a distinct white inner panelling on the primary flight feathers at rest, as well as white on the underside of the primary tips and underwing, vent and upper tail, which is not found in either Lanius schach schach or L. s. fuscatus. - BIJ
The melanistic form 'fuscatus' is apparently widespread in Hainan, Guangdong and SE Fujian. - Ed |
