| Remarks : | Dr. Pranay Rao made the following observation :
Interesting is the presence of the 'crested' variety of this species in Corbett.
There are two races that occur in mainland India:
a.) S. c. cirrhatus which is the nominate race (the crested race) occurring from Rajasthan in the north to the rest of the south.
b.) S. c. limnaeetus the northern race is considered by some to be a separate species owing to morphological differences (the lack of crest) and vocal differences. What is most interesting is that the latter is the race that occurs in Corbett. The crested race S. c. cirrhatus, as per my knowledge, is not recorded from this area. If someone knows of records of both the races occurring in this area, please do correct me. |
