| Remarks : | We got this eagle three months back from Anavilam, Cardomom Hills Reserve, just 6km from Thekkady (near Periyar). That cardomom estate has evergreen canopy. This eagle chick might have fallen from the nest, and labourers kept it in some other place. From the same area, one month before this incident we got a Crested Serpent Eagle chick with broken wings. It was released into the wild two weeks back with full health.
I just bring some meat waste (chicken and beef) from the hotel where I work to feed it at the Veterinary Centre. A daily wages staff called Mr. Sekharan (who is much interested in animal life) takes care of the bird along with some mammals like macaque, squirrels, pangolin, etc. In the last six months he has also treated a Mottled Wood Owl, Brown Wood Owl (with only one eye), Barn Owl (covered with the oil), Oriental Bay Owl (rescued from a pet owner) and a Brown Fish Owl (from private captivity). All have been released back into the forest. - GKTH
