| English synonyms: | Broad-zoned Kingfisher, Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher (euryzona), Malayan Blue-banded Kingfisher (peninsulae) |
| Bird Family : | Alcedinidae - Smaller Kingfishers |
| Bird Group : | CORACIIFORMES |
| Red Data Status : | Vulnerable |
| Remarks : | Although regarded as race peninsulae by many authors, the birds found in Peninsular Malaysia certainly look different from those of the actual race peninsulae in Thailand. The most obvious difference is in the male's "blue band". The Thai male has mottled and narrower blue band, whereas the Malaysian
male has broader and solid blue breast. Hence the Malaysian bird should be regarded as a separate new race. - TPO |
