| Remarks : | On the right the chick on 24 September 2020; on the left the same bird on 5 October 2020.
I had previously submitted a photo of the White-browed Crake's chick taken on the 24th of September 2020. The age of the chick was estimated to be about 4 to 5 weeks old.
This follow-up photo was taken on the 5th of October 2020 (that is, about 12 days later). It shows an appearance more like a juvenile White-browed Crake. The estimated age of this bird would be about 6-7 weeks old.
The change in appearance from the chick was noted from the 1st of October 2020. At that time it would still forage for food with its parent and very occasionally the parent would feed it. When the photo was taken on the 5th of October 2020 I had observed the bird for at least 20 minutes. It was foraging for food on its own and successfully found food several times. The parent was nowhere in sight. - PS |
