| Remarks : | A photo of Black-throated Sunbird (male) we saw feeding on the nectar of Purple Bignonia Bignonia magnifica. It practically visited nearly all the flowers on the bush. Feeding was only by "nectar robbing" by piercing the base of the flower stalks. We did not see any wing fluttering to get nectar. If we zoom & look closely at the base of the flowers, we can see the previous pierced hole "wounds" of the flowers. This sunbird probably does not fertilise the flowers due to its feeding strategy, due to its shorter bill/tongue, but the Streaked Spiderhunter most probably does, by its feeding habits & much longer bill/tongue. - MC |
