| Remarks : | Apparently the first record of this species from the Indian Subcontinent. The bird was found associating with a small flock of Spot-winged Starlings Saroglossa spiloptera. This species breeds in Japan and winters in Borneo and the Philipines (although a big part of the population is unaccounted for). Known vagrancy until now is limited with only a few records from the South East Asian mainland and apparently some north of Japan. The bird's plumage was in good condition and it seems unlikely to have been an escaped cagebird, but opinions are welcomed by the photographer. If the consensus is that it was a bona fide wild bird, the observers plan to publish a full report of the finding. - 9 April 2006 |
