| Remarks : | This is quite tricky but the major difference between male and female are the size and the markings on the belly and breast. I observed reverse sexual dimorphism in the Forest Owlet - males are smaller in size. One can make a mistake considering male as juvenile bird or fledgling. But we do not have sufficient data to prove it scientifically, as we have very few specimens in museums. Due to size difference the regular posture of male and female are quite different, but with practice it is possible to identify. Males have very few markings on the belly and breast as compared to females. - GJ |
