| Remarks : | Little Forktail washing Sellaginella (moss) before depositing it on a ledge behind a waterfall in the beautiful gorge cut by the Lama Nala, a tributary of the Alaknanda River. The female and male first picked the moss, came to a preferred rock, where the fastflowing water barely crossed the rock and washed it thoroughly before taking it to the nest (under construction). They never took a direct approach to the nest, always stopping a little away from the actual position of the nest. Unfortunately, the pictures of the forktail while putting the material in the nest were blurred by falling water which confused my autofocus. I spent over 3 hours watching this activity. It was great fun! Their shrill and high pitched single-note whistle could be easily heard over the rumble of the torrential waters of Lama Nala. - AP |
