| Remarks : | Considered a rarity in India but it is a regular winter visitor to this area. This winter they have arrived in good numbers. Saw 15 individuals in one location and 8 in another. A few Chaffinches Fringilla coelebs were also seen in the same habitat.
Both species favour the fruits of this tree (can be seen in picture) known as Wild [Himalayan] Pear Pyrus pashia. Its local name is Kainth. They also descend to the ground to feed on seeds. - AC |
