| Remarks : | Spot-billed Pelicans are as common as sparrows if you visit the Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary near Siem Reap in Cambodia. These large and heavy birds can be seen swimming along one of the tributaries of the Tonle Sap but never letting the boat get any closer than about 30 metres before taking to flight to move further away or to perch on the treetops nearby. In flight, they remind one of seaplanes, gliding effortlessly above the water but making quite a splash when they land. - DL |
