While Madge S.C. reported the first Indian record of one female, from Corbett National Park in December 1982, now in Uttarakhand, few records from this state, including one from Sankri in the Har-ki-Dun valley, and one of Ramana M. Athreya from Kedarnath Musk Deer Reserve exist. Does this sighting, of such large numbers suggest the recent spread, southwards of these birds during winter migration, or is it that apart from Kedarnath Musk Deer Reserve, which is a popular birding destination, not many areas of the state are birded in winters, thus their wintering status in the state is less known. - GA
