Large Blue Flycatcher Cyornis magnirostris   - Adult male
Large Blue Flycatcher
Photographer : © Pritam Baruah
Location :in bamboo at 950m, between Udayak Pass & Hayuliang, Lohit Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, India
Date : 2 May 2015
English synonyms:Large-billed Blue Flycatcher, Large-billed Blue-Flycatcher, Hill Blue Flycatcher
Bird Family :Muscicapini - Old World Flycatchers & Niltavas
Bird Group :PASSERIFORMES
Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :All five photos are of the same bird. Three birds were singing from their respective territories all separated by road. All territories were in bamboo. They never left their territories. This seemed consistent with nesting behavior. We were already familiar with the calls of Hill Blue (mostly descending rapid whistling notes with some chips). But the songs we heard were slower and mostly rising-falling-rising with chips. We played the song of Large Blue Flycatcher and they responded very well. Sonograms of my recordings (5) can be seen in the link below:
