Oriental Bird Images

Born 1970 in Porto/Portugal, I started watching birds intensively at the age of 11. Growing up by Lake Constance (Bodensee) I was involved quite early in a more regular avifaunistic framework within the local birdwatching association (Ornithologische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Bodensee). This included e.g. diurnal migration, breeding birds and waterfowl censuses.

In 1988/89 I stayed as an exchange student in Regina, Saskatchewan (Canada). After finishing school and Civil service (on the small island Helgoland) I started my biology studies at the Georg-August University of Goettingen from where I graduated in 2000 with a degree "Diplom-Biologe". My focus lies on zoology, ecology, conservation and certainly on ornithology.

After two years as a freelance ecologist I was employed at an independent scientific company that is conducting risk assessment studies on behalf of big agrochemical enterprises ("...Regulatory support for chemicals, Infobroking and Faunistics."). These field studies usually focus mostly on mammals and birds. With different means (e.g. telemetry) the quantitative and qualitative habitat use through the species of concern are investigated. Being responsible for organization (e.g. organizing staff) and for the conduct of specific studies, analysing data and writing reports were main parts of my occupation.

In 2006 I decided to take a chance on doing a PhD at the Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (employed). In this I investigate bird migration with devices of radars and others (e.g. bird ringing etc.).

In general I work and have worked with a wide variety of different methods in ornithology as well as biology (also some molecular ones). I am also very much interested in conservation and development-related issues.

My passion for travelling has taken me to different countries: Argentina, Canada, Ecuador, Israel, Mauretania, Mongolia, Morocco, Tunesia, Turkey and much of Europe). I have also done some "bird travel guide". Hopefully, many more interesting places/countries are ahead. Up-to-date: 12.09.2007
