Remarks :In October 2009 I observed a male Variable Wheatear trying to enter a gap in a wall made of stone without cement plaster. On 13 September 2017 I observed that process once more at the same place. The wall was about 200 metres long and 1 metre broad. The bird was trying the enter a gap every five to seven metres, sometimes staying in the gap for a little, then coming out and continuing the procedure in the same direction. It could have been in search of insects or other food, or it could have been searching for a nesting place. - JPS

The nearest known breeding area is Kashmir. - Ed.
