Red Data Status :Least Concern
Remarks :Habitat: Prawn farming site offering a ‘mud flat’ environment, adjacent to the beach, near entry to large river mouth

The location is on the ‘eastern’ side of the Kuala Baram river mouth near the Brunei border. I could not reach the beach but watched at a large prawn farming site adjacent to the beach.

Some ponds were drained offering a ‘mud flat’ environment and there were numerous waders here, all different from the first site.

Saw this Grey Plover in breeding plumage feeding on the mud flats. Note the classical black axillaries (under wing patch) in flight to differentiate from the Golden Plover. Hayman, Marchant, Prater (Shorebirds: Identification Guide to the Waders of the World) state that breeding adult females “Underparts have browner tinge and many white flecks. Underparts sometimes browner.” So this could be a female. - Amar
