The male specimen (USNM 579793) was collected on 3 June 1970, the female (USNM 520002) was collected on 10 June 1966, both by D.S. Rabor from Mindanao, Philippines.

Taxonomic Notes :
Monotypic. The forms M. (l.) leytensis and M. (l.) sordidus were formerly treated as conspecific under the English name Miniature Tit Babbler. Mindanao Miniature Babbler M. (l.) sordidus is now regarded as a separate species from Visayan Miniature Babbler M. (l.) leytensis following
